About Us
The DSC is a parent-run volunteer committee of the Byram Hills Pre dedicated to supporting parents of children with developmental, emotional, learning or physical differences, or who simply may need some help to meet milestones, through events and information-sharing opportunities within the community.
The DSC was founded by Armonk moms who met through the BHPA and were relieved to meet other parents who had shared similar experiences, such as finding therapists to support their childrens’ development, filling out tedious paperwork, and worrying about the challenges their children may face.
DSC meeting and events are open to all Byram Hills parents of preschool-aged children regardless of whether or not your child has a diagnosed condition, IEP or 504 Plan.
We are open to anyone looking to foster their preschool child's development. All parents are welcome, and ALL conversations are confidential.
For all questions and inquiries, or to join our confidential e-mail list, please contact byramdsc@gmail.com.
Goals
The DSC has three main goals for the 2024-25 school year:

Inclusive Community
Empower Parents
Promote Children's Success
Foster an inclusive community to connect with other parents grappling with similar questions, concerns or uncertainties about their children’s development and learning.
Empower parents through information-sharing, communication and collaboration.
Promote success among children with developmental delays, learning, emotional and mental health differences.
Resource Hub
On our journeys to support our childrens’ development, we’ve come across some amazing therapeutic providers, from occupational therapy to speech therapy to vision therapy and beyond.
Check out our RESOURCE HUB for a super-handy list of service providers crowdsourced from local parents who’ve been there.
Developmental Support Dictionary
Embarking upon a journey to support your child’s development often means learning lots of new terms and acronyms, which can be overwhelming. Here, we have compiled a list of terms that are commonly used when discussing educational and therapeutic supports for children.
This is a living, breathing document that we update from time to time. If you have something to add, please email byramdsc@gmail.com. The more terms we include, the better we can help other parents navigate their journeys!
What Families Need to Know
As your child enters kindergarten, it’s important to understand how special education services shift from the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to the Committee on Special Education (CSE).
This transition includes a review of your child’s needs and eligibility under one of New York State’s 13 disability classifications, which help determine the most appropriate support.
At Coman Hill, we offer a Continuum of Services designed to meet a wide range of student needs, from consultant teacher services to special classes and related supports.
The INFORMATION will help you better understand the transition process, service options, and how to advocate for your child as they begin this exciting new chapter in their education.
